Welcome Back: A message from the Grand knight
Brother Knights and friends,
Welcome back! And welcome to the 2017-2018 fraternal year! It is has been a long and great summer to vacation and rejuvenate ourselves but it is time to get back in the swing of things. Nevertheless, I am excited for this year. Your officers and I have been planning a lot. We had a Great Officer’s Retreat in late July setting up a packed calendar and a strong budget for this semester.
The council’s theme last year was fraternity. The theme for this year is Unity. Unity is one of our founding principles. It is the state of being united or joined together as a whole. Notice how the word community contains the word unity. As a fraternal organization and a community of Catholic men, we are united together with God. Each one of us has a role to play in the success of this council with each role being dependent on all of the others. The Knights of Columbus was set up to unite Catholic men and prevent them from falling away to sinful behavior. Going to Krakow in the Capital in DC in July, I went to a talk about how to find community for young adults. Many young men are struggling out in the world looking for a sense of purpose and community. Knights are a fraternity for life with nearly 15,000 councils, there is nowhere you can’t go to find a brotherhood of faithful men. This fraternal year I would like to make initiatives to revitalize and reengage our alumni whom make up a majority of our council as well as collaborating with other councils. Let’s also make this a big recruitment year as we gear up for Roman Week! I thank you all for your support and look forward to seeing the many graces that will come from this year. I will end in reminding us all of our mission and vision as a council.
Mission: "To form strong, faithful, and virtuous Catholic men by uniting them in fraternity. Together, we serve the Church and the UMD community."
Vision: "To be a fraternity of dependable Catholic leaders raising the standard for men of our generation."

Roman Week Approaches
Calling all Knights and prospective members! This semester's main recruitment effort, Roman Week, is next week. Roman week parallels Greek Week here at UMD and aims to give prospective members a similar insight into who the Knights are and what we do. We've planned a great slate of events for prospective Knights to socialize, pray, and serve with us to learn about our Order and consider joining. Be sure share this flyer with all of your friends and encourage them to consider joining.
Pay your 2018 dues online! Dues are $25. If you would like to pay your dues online, the Council requests that you pay approximately 103% ($25.75) to make up for the PayPal service charge. Thank you!
Please consider supporting our council!
