Welcome Back: A message from the Grand knight
Hello Brother Knights,
I hope you all had a restful winter break with your families. Fall 2017 was a fruitful
term for our Council, and one that I hope furthered us in our collective quest to achieve true Catholic brotherhood. We maintained our commitment to Charity by buying and donating 24 Coats for Kids to a local Catholic Charities coat drive. We welcomed nine new brother Knights into our Order to cap an exceptionally successful Roman Week. To foster a greater sense of brotherhood, we implemented a new “Big Brother, Little Brother” system within our Council. Finally, we raised nearly $700 from working concessions at football games this semester, which funded our events and over $1,000 in donations to those in need within the community and to our 6 seminarian Brother Knights.
Looking to the Spring 2018 term, I would like for each of us to renew the vow we made to uphold our Order’s principles of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity, keeping them ever close to our hearts. I would also like us all to remind ourselves what makes our work as Knights of Columbus unique within the Church. As Knights, we are all here to answer a very real call to war. The war we fight in doesn’t take place on a physical battlefield, but on a spiritual one. It takes place within our very culture, and within our own hearts. Our sword in this warfare is Charity, our strength is found in our Unity, and our victory is fueled by our Brotherhood. We are called to use these spiritual armaments to protect Christ’s Kingdom from the rising forces of secularization, and to defend those who cannot defend themselves within our community. In doing so, we progress in our Mission as a Council to form strong, virtuous, Catholic men by uniting them in fraternity. Together, we serve the Church and the UMD community. It is our shared call to Unity that allows Knights together to be more impactful in Charity than other Catholic men alone. It is our bond of Fraternity that reinforces Knights with a wealth of spiritual tools, resources and support to help us become more loving and virtuous Catholic men, husbands, and fathers. These are what make the Knights of Columbus a trusted name, tried by time.
To honor your hard work to grow Christ’s Kingdom at the University of Maryland since the Council’s founding in 2003, I would like to invite you to join me in celebrating Sedes Sapientiae Council 13295’s 15th year anniversary on Saturday, March 10th, 2018. Our celebration will begin with Mass at 5:00pm in the Catholic Student Center’s Chapel of Christ the Divine Teacher, followed by a catered dinner in the Barney Room. Once again, I would like to express my thanks to every member of this Council for the work you’ve put in for the success of our Order. I look forward to another great semester with you all!

Roman Week Approaches
Calling all Knights and prospective members! This semester's main recruitment effort, Roman Week, is next week. Roman week parallels Greek Week here at UMD and aims to give prospective members a similar insight into who the Knights are and what we do. We've planned a great slate of events for prospective Knights to socialize, pray, and serve with us to learn about our Order and consider joining. Be sure share this flyer with all of your friends and encourage them to consider joining.
Pay your 2018 dues online! Dues are $25. If you would like to pay your dues online, the Council requests that you pay approximately 103% ($25.75) to make up for the PayPal service charge. Thank you!
Please consider supporting our council!
